The Speed River Track and Field Club is thrilled to announce the hiring of Jason Kerr as the club’s new Associate Coach.  Kerr brings a wealth of experience to the club having helped build the Western University Mustangs program into a sprints powerhouse.  “Speed River TFC has had many great achievements over the years, and I feel bringing Jason on board as a full-time coach is one of the best things we’ve ever done.” Commented Speed River Track and Field Club Head Coach Dave Scott-Thomas.  “We had a terrific pool of applicants and Jason simply blew our search committee away with his understanding of the sport and our unique local culture. He has real feel:  passionate, intuitive, sharp as a tack and lot of fun to have around. We’ve got a super-star on the way up and he adds a ton of fire-power to our team.  I can’t wait to have Jason on the ground, rolling up his sleeves and getting to work.”

A former All-Canadian at Western, Kerr has recently completed his Masters of Arts in Coaching at the school.  In his tenure at Western, Jason helped the Mustangs to their first ever CIS title in 2011.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to join the Speed River TFC and Guelph community.  Coaching is something that I cherish and enjoy each and every day of my life, and the opportunity to motivate and inspire young athletes as my career is something that I will never take for granted.” Kerr remarked on joining the Club “I can't wait to land in Guelph and start working with all of the athletes, coaches, and support staff to continue establishing an ideal culture for the development of aspiring speed-power athletes.  The culture and sense of togetherness that the community exhibits is something that I have always admired from afar.  I believe that this is the perfect place for me as a person and as a coach, and working and mentoring under a head coach like Dave Scott Thomas is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Thank you so much to the Coaches Association of Ontario, the Quest for Gold Lottery, Speed River TFC and the University of Guelph for making this opportunity possible.  I am motivated and inspired by their selection of me as their candidate and I can't wait to get started! “

Kerr is widely regarded as one of the top young speed power minds in the country and will begin his role with his new club in May.  In addition to working with Speed River, Kerr will also play a lead role with the University of Guelph track and field program.  The new position is supported by a grant from the Coaches Association of Ontario and the Quest For Gold Lottery.
