ABOUT SPEED RIVER TRACK AND FIELD CLUB

Speed River is one of Canada’s Premium Track and Field Clubs. Boasting seven Olympians and over 150 athletes, the Guelph-based club is home to many of Canada’s top athletes and is dedicated to high performance athletics while providing a positive home for athletes to develop.

MANDATE

The Associate Head Coach (Speed/Power) will oversee the Speed River TFC and University Guelph Speed/Power events including sprints, jumps, throws and combined events.  The Coach will be expected to develop their own group in their event area of expertise, to mentor coaches in the other event areas, and also to develop a cohesive plan for the overall development of both Speed River TFC and the University of Guelph’s Speed/Power events. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a strong knowledge of the Canadian Track and Field and the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) systems.
  • Five or more years coaching experience in multiple track and field events is required
  • NCCP Competition Development (formerly Level III) certification required
  • A Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with athletes in the Training to Train to Winning For a Living Stages
  • Experience working with provincial and national class athletes required, international class athletes preferred
  • Demonstrated teaching and organizational skills
  • Proven recruiting track record at the club and university levels

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of a nationally competitive group of athletes in the Speed/Power events
  • Develop a long-term plan for the Speed River and University of Guelph Speed/Power Program
  • Recruit athletes for Speed/Power events for the University of Guelph and the Speed River Track and Field Club
  • Provide leadership and mentorship for coaches in the Speed/Power events
  • Create an integrated group environment that includes both able bodied and Paralympic athletes

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

  • Report to the Head Coach of Speed River Track and Field Club/University of Guelph
  • Oversee other Speed/Power event group coaches at Speed River Track and Field Club and University of Guelph
  • Work with Speed River Club Manager/University of Guelph Associate Coach Endurance
  • Work with Speed River Integrated Support Team and club partners

COMPENSATION

The position will Full-Time with benefits over a three year contract with a hiring range of $40,000-$50,000.  Final compensation will be determined by the successful candidate’s skills and experience. Speed River TFC is grateful to the Coaches Association of Ontario and the Quest For Gold Lottery for their support of this position.
